This is a 12 month postgraduate clinical and research fellowship with emphasis on the surgical management of bariatric patients. The surgical training is done under the tutelage of Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala (Head of the Department of Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgery).
Structure:
The fellowship program comprises of hands on training in bariatric surgery with the opportunity to assist in more than 200 cases which include laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic as well as single incision sleeve gastrectomy, gastric banding, BIB insertions/removal and revisional bariatric surgery. The aim of the program is to produce a competent bariatric surgeon proficient in all the nuances of this specialised field. In addition to this you will also be exposed to advanced general surgery laparoscopic procedures like fundoplications, adrenalectomy, colorectal surgeries etc.
Clinical research lies at the core of this programme. Fellows are encouraged to conduct clinical trials and make presentations at national and international meetings. Other than maintaining a log of all the cases during their fellowship period it is also mandatory for them to be the first author of at least one publication.

What is the selection process?
Selection is purely merit based. Candidates with clinical publications and previous experience in basic or advanced laparoscopy will be given greater consideration.
What is the process for international candidates?
